Gympie Regional Council Industrial Land Study
Development Directive and Better Cities Group were engaged by Gympie Regional Council (GRC) to develop an Industrial Land Strategy (ILS) for the local government area (LGA). The purpose of the ILS was to review previous investigations into industrial land needs undertaken in the Gympie region to:
• identify the extent and location of lands within in the Gympie Region necessary and best placed to accommodate industrial activities required to support the social and economic development of the region; and
• ensure that the new planning scheme appropriately facilitates and manages industrial development across the planning horizon to 2046.
The scope included:
• Identification of industrial land needs for the Gympie region to 2046 and any change in population or economic projections which may impact on industrial land requirements;
• Identification of existing industrial zoned land in the region and extent of land take up for industrial purposes;
• Review of industry-related development applications/approvals under the current planning scheme;
• Analysis of the suitability of the existing industrial zoned land for industrial purposes and likelihood of development for its intended use;
• Identification of existing infrastructure for industrial zoned land, future infrastructure needs and a gap analysis, based on existing studies and internal consultation;
• Identification of an appropriate amount of land and locations within the Gympie region suitable for industrial development to 2046;
• Identification of how the new planning scheme can respond to industrial land needs and the management of industrial development to the 2046 planning horizon; and
• Review of approaches taken or proposed to be taken by other comparable local governments in Queensland and identification of relevant best practice, lessons or implications for Gympie.
